Clinical Hematology is branch of clinical medicine which deals with diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders and blood cancers. The department provides tertiary care services for patients with haematological disorders both benign and malignant.
The Department of Clinical Hematology looks after and treats people with blood related disorders. These include blood cancers (Leukemia, Lymphoma, multiple Myeloma), disorders associated with low hemoglobin (various types of anaemia), bleeding disorders (haemophilia and others), and other rare diseases.

Dr. Shinto is a highly accomplished clinician with a robust background in clinical medicine and advanced training in hematology. After earning an MD in Clinical Medicine, Dr. Shinto pursued a Doctorate (DM) in Clinical Hematology at the prestigious Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute (SGPGI), Lucknow. Subsequently, he gained extensive experience at leading institutions such as Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, where he served as Registrar in Clinical Hematology, and Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute (RGCI), New Delhi, where he completed a fellowship in Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT).
Dr. Shinto has been actively involved in research, having completed two projects on Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) as part of their academic curriculum. His expertise spans the management of benign and malignant hematological disorders, with a primary focus on hemato-oncological diseases such as leukemias, lymphomas, and myelomas, as well as bone marrow transplantation, including haploidentical stem cell transplants.
As part of his commitment to advancing knowledge in cellular therapies, Dr. Shinto received the prestigious Indo-American Cancer Association Fellowship, which enabled him to train in the Stem Cell Department at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. He was also awarded the American Society of Hematology Visitor Training Program scholarship, providing opportunities to train in stem cell transplantation at the University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and Cleveland Clinic, Ohio. During this time, he gained hands-on experience in CAR T-cell therapy, including cell manufacturing and managing associated complications.
Dr. Shinto has presented numerous papers at national and international conferences and has published in reputed indexed journals. Among their notable accolades is the LEUKA – European School of Hematology International Scholarship, which allowed them to present an oral paper at the 20th Annual John Goldman Conference on Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in Miami, Florida. As the “Young Hematology Scholar Awardee,” Dr. Shinto showcased his work at the 2024 Summit on Hematological Cancers in Nashville, TN, USA, and presented abstracts at the Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma Congress 2024 in New York, USA.
Recently, Dr. Shinto completed an observership at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, focusing on CAR T-cell and BiTE therapies for multiple myeloma and B-cell malignancies. His exemplary contributions to oncology were recognized with the “Promising Oncologist 2024” award by the TIMES NETWORK.
Currently, Dr. Shinto serves as the Chief & Senior Consultant of the Department of Clinical Hematology, Hemato-Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) at Baby Memorial Hospital, Calicut, Kerala, India. With a steadfast commitment to excellence, he aspires to continue advancing the field of hematology, particularly in bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapies, while delivering compassionate and effective care to his patients.
